Firmware update

Modified on Wed, 28 Aug at 3:14 PM

Please confirm whether you have done a firmware update on the batteries since increasing your solar array?

With our batteries you need to do a firmware update on all the batteries when adding more than one battery on an installation. The reason for the firmware update is to ensure that the batteries are on the same version of firmware, as some batteries are stored in a resellers warehouse for a long period before being sold. The firmware update also synchronizes the batteries, thus ensuring that the batteries charge and discharge at the same rate.

If you do not do a firmware update you will see that one of the batteries in the battery bank tend to carry a heavier load than the rest of the pack, commonly the master is the battery that will carry the heavier load. Therefore the master/ battery that carries the heavier load will shut off and you will not have used the full capacity of the battery bank as you see in your instance.

I would recommend getting the Hubble RS232 to USB cable and a windows PC.

We will send a program and a bin file. You will drag the bin file into the program and enter the password. The password would be a word document in the file I have transferred  to you.

Please ensure that your cable is not removed during the update, this will stagnate your battery.

Please do the following prior to doing the update:

  1. Ensure that the battery's SOC is 50% or higher
  2. Isolate the battery ( you can pull the disconnect fuse or you can disconnect the battery from the inverter). No current should flow to or from the unit.
  3. Proceed with the update after the battery is isolated

If the battery goes into an alarm after the update you need to disconnect the DC cables. Once the cables are disconnected you need to turn the unit on and leave it on for approximately 5-10 minutes. After the waiting period turn the unit off and back on. The alarm light should be voided and you can reconnect the system.

From there your system will be updated.

Recharge the batteries to full capacity to ensure the firmware initiates.
